Matthew F. Totten
Mr. Totten is from Brunswick, Georgia and is a graduate of Glynn Academy. Having grown up in a large family which worked for the federal government, he had the opportunity to live and study in several different states and learned first-hand the importance of collaboration and conflict resolution. Before practicing law, Mr. Totten worked for three years in the financial sector, forecasting, analyzing, and presenting interim and quarterly results to the senior management of large, publicly traded corporations.
Mr. Totten attended the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, graduating cum laude with a B.B.A. in Finance, and also attended the University of South Carolina School of Law, graduating with a JD.
Mr. Totten was the Managing Editor of Volume 9 of the South Carolina Journal of International Law and Business, and studied dispute resolution during law school at The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, one of the four London Inns of Court in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Totten concentrates his practice in real property litigation. Mr. Totten represents lenders and consumers through title insurance companies in real property title disputes. Particularly, he resolves title defects, lien priority disputes, and other items affecting real property interests. He additionally represents several national property management clients in landlord-tenant matters, including fair housing matters, adverse litigation, and general eviction-related issues. Additionally, Mr. Totten represents home owner associations in the course of disputes with association members. Further, he has extensive experience in representing financial institutions and mortgage servicer clients throughout the foreclosure process, including associated dispossessory, bankruptcy, and litigation matters. Mr. Totten is additionally an accomplished and peer-recognized Georgia Super Lawyer as a real estate attorney.
Mr. Totten is an Eagle Scout, serves as a longtime volunteer leader with the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, and is active alongside his wife in their church in downtown Atlanta. He and his wife are blessed to have a handsome baby boy, two crazy dogs, and the still somehow find the time to be avid UGA football fans. He further enjoys traveling and gardening.
