Monica Gilroy to Deliver Keynote at Georgia Banking, Finance Conference in Savannah
Monica K. Gilroy, a founding partner of the recently opened Gilroy Firm law firm, will deliver the keynote address tomorrow afternoon (Thursday July 26) at the ’s statewide conference in Savannah for banking and finance examiners.
Her speech will focus on pitfalls associated with attempting to stop foreclosure through loss mitigation efforts and particularly problems associated with manufactured home titles, wrongful foreclosure actions and wrongful evictions.
The session starts at 2 p.m. at The Westin Savannah Harbor. More than 100 attendees are expected to hear the address. During the remainder of the conference she will share the podium with members of Freddie Mac, the State Attorney General’s office and other top mortgage default lawyers in the state.
According to RealtyTrac Inc., an on-line foreclosure sales site, Georgia reported one foreclosure filing for every 41 households in the state during calendar 2006. The 75,975 foreclosure filings recorded during the year made the state the second highest in the nation in the percentage of foreclosures and the sixth highest in the actual number of foreclosures.
Between 2005 and 2006 the number of foreclosure filings in Georgia increased 67 percent.
RealtyTrac also noted that Atlanta’s 2006 foreclosure total of 63,737 represented 4.4 percent of the city’s households, the second highest among the top 100 MSAs and more than four times the national average.
Ms. Gilroy leads Gilroy Firm’s litigation practice. Earlier this year she, along with Jennifer L. Dickenson, founded the firm whose practice areas include residential and commercial real estate and litigation law. Gilroy Firm opened its doors on May 1 with nine office locations in metro Atlanta.
A member of the State Bar of Georgia since 1993, Ms. Gilroy holds an AV-peer review rating with Martindale Hubbell. She also serves regularly as a Special Master in Fulton County.
Her litigation practice focus on all aspects of real estate litigation, including foreclosure and title disputes, broker and agent liability defense, mortgage fraud-related litigation and civil and commercial contract disputes.
Ms. Gilroy received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1990 and a J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1993. She also attended the Ealing College of Higher Education in a study abroad program in 1989.
